Disk read errors are frustrating but often fixable!
Common Error Messages

Checking the Error Channel
OPEN 15,8,15:INPUT#15,A,B$,C,D:PRINT A;B$;C;D:CLOSE 15
This displays the drive's error status. "00, OK, 00, 00" means no errors.
Head Alignment Check
If many disks fail to load:
- Try a known-good disk first
- Listen for unusual sounds (grinding, clicking)
- The head may need alignment (service required)
Cleaning the Drive Head
- Purchase a 5.25" disk head cleaning kit
- Apply cleaning solution to the cleaning disk
- Insert and run:
LOAD"$",8 - Let it run for 30 seconds
- Remove and let dry before using regular disks
Tip: Never touch the magnetic surface of a floppy disk. Even fingerprints can cause read errors!
