Monitor and Display Options
Your Commodore can connect to televisions or dedicated monitors. For the best picture quality, we recommend a Commodore monitor.
Connection Types (Best to Worst Quality)
| Connection | Quality | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| RGBI (C128 only) | Excellent - 80 column crisp text | Requires 1902 monitor |
| Composite Video | Very Good | 1701/1702 monitor, sharp colors |
| S-Video (C64C/128) | Very Good | Separate chroma/luma signals |
| RF/Television | Acceptable | Channel 3 or 4, some fuzziness |
Recommended Monitors
- Commodore 1702: The gold standard. Composite and S-Video inputs. Beautiful picture.
- Commodore 1902: For C128 users. Supports 80-column RGBI mode.
- Commodore 1084: Versatile with multiple input types. Works with Amiga too!
Using a Television
If using a TV, connect the RF modulator to your antenna input and tune to Channel 3 (or Channel 4 if there is interference). Use the fine tuning dial for best picture.
"The 1702 monitor transforms your Commodore 64 experience. Once you see the difference, you will never go back to RF." - Compute! Magazine
